The Spirometry Lab

Pre Lab Questions (p.340)

1.  What medical purposes could be served by measuring respiratory volumes?

2.  What variables might affect the measurement of respiratory volumes in a single individual? Does this investigation control for these variables?

3.  What was your Vital Capacity?

4.  How might an athlete use information about their vital capacity?  How do respiratory volumes relate to athletic performance?

5.  For the patient in the hospital who cannot breathe on their own, what volume should the ventilator be adjusted to?
